Be Afraid

Scary things abound in our apartment as of late:

Relentlessly aggressive pigeons, who won't rest until they claw their way through our nets and onto our balcony. We have been living in a Hitchcockian nightmare the past few weeks.
Our neighbor's demented scarecrow, designed (we assume) to scare away said pigeons. This thing greets us whenever we walk outside.
My new love, spinach smoothies. They aren't really scary, but they do bear an unfortunate resemblance to swamp water. And really, they're delicious! Just close your eyes and chug...

Honorable mention goes to the book I'm reading, Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Oprah was not lying, this book is intense. I thought No Country For Old Men was fierce, but this one is even worse. (Meaning better.) I recommend it only to the stouthearted.

That urban scarecrow is a little freaky but the spinach smoothie I might need to copy. Recipe or just throw green stuff in a blender? We're liking kale smoothies- with lots of fruit too, of course. THANK YOU for the awesome treats yesterday. The bishopric got the majority but luckily there were some extras. And your new blog look is awesome! What original template did you use?

I just finished The Road! Oh, man, I agree with the intense-ness. I really liked it.

I love how you have the pigeon spikes and net and still they are trying to get you. They must be smelling chocolate cake baking . . . That scarecrow is freaky! But maybe it's effective?

I'm in awe of those pigeons. What do they find so enticing on your balcony? Hopefully you don't see more than one at a time. I sometimes get flashes of 'Birds' when I see big groups of birds just hanging out...eerie.

@ Holly: green smoothies are the best! I just throw in a bunch of spinach, half a frozen banana, a handful of berries, either water or juice, and some protein powder if I've been pumping iron. Kale smoothies sound good, too...I may have to try that.

@ Heather: SERIOUSLY. I'm almost done but scared to finish because I suspect there won't be a happy ending. :(

@ Chadlee & Meghan: These pigeons are CRAZY. Some of our neighbors don't have nets and have no problems at all, while we have the whole thing securely netted and they use their claws to pull down the nets and climb through tiny holes in the top. I'm afraid they'll start trying to come into the apartment next...
